Elliot Clan Tartan
The Elliot tartan was first recorded in the book, ”Clans Originaux” in 1880, and later in the Johnston’s “The Tartans of the Clans and Septs of Scotland”, in 1906. The coloring is unique among tartans, being described as maroon and blue. In 1993, Andrew Elliot, of Elliot Fine Fabrics Weavers of Selkirk, produced an evening version of the Elliot tartan, with the blue changed to midnight blue.
About Your Latch Hook Pillow Top
The tartan pattern uses regular 3.75 squares-to-the-inch latch hook canvas. Recommended canvas size is at least 20”x20”. The large finished pillow top is 16”x16” (60 squares x 60 squares). If a smaller pillow top is desired, an area approximately 11”x11” (40 squares x 40 squares) is marked on the pattern.
To allow for the combination of two colors in one square and make a tartan-like pillow top, the latch hook tartan pillow uses medium weight acrylic knitting/crochet yarn instead of the usual precut latch hook yarn. Cut the knitting/crochet yarn into 3 inch lengths, and use two 3” yarn lengths for each square, following the color chart provided.
The image above is from the first page of documentation that accompanies the pattern. It is not a picture of the final product and does not represent the soft, plush tartan-like pillow top you will achieve. Please refer to the samples pictured on the Product Samples page for an example of how the finished product will look.
