Amazon
Amazon.com has a good selection of new and used books on tartans, clans, and Scotland. The Complete Book of Tartan and World Tartans are two of the books I used for research and are available from Amazon. They also sell cross stitch floss, knitting/crochet yarn, and Aida and latch hook canvas.

Eveything Latch Hook
EverythingLatchHook.com has 3.75 count latch hook canvas.
Scot Clans
ScotClans.com has a wonderful search feature that allows you to input a family name and it will return the corresponding clan name, if any. It also includes a Tartan Pattern Book with hundreds of tartan designs displayed. Oh, and it also sells kilts and other tartan fabrics, jewelry, and gifts.
Wikipedia
Wikipedia.org has a wealth of information on tartans, clans, and Scotland. I used the Wikipedia extensively in my research. Search for the family/clan name under the form “Clan Surname” (e.g., “Clan Chattan”).
Scottish Register of Tartans
The Scottish Register of Tartans is a national repository of tartan designs. The Register contains all known Scottish tartans, plus U.S. and state tartans, and others. It is a fascinating site to browse through.
