Oklahoma State Tartan

The Oklahoma tartan was designed in 1998 by Jerrel Murray, president emeritus of the United Scottish Clans of Oklahoma, a charitable organization “dedicated to the promotion of Scottish culture in Oklahoma”.  The tartan was adopted as the official Oklahoma State Tartan in 1999.  The red, white, black, and gold (yellow) colors on a field of blue are symbolic of the people, agricultural products, manufactured products, and natural resources of Oklahoma.

About Your Latch Hook Rug

The tartan pattern uses regular 3.75 squares-to-the-inch latch hook canvas.  Recommended canvas size is 60”x36”.  Finished rug size is 56”x32” (210 squares x 120 squares).

To allow for the combination of two colors in one square and make a tartan rug, the latch hook rug uses medium weight acrylic knitting/crochet yarn instead of the usual precut latch hook yarn.  Cut the knitting/crochet yarn into 3 inch lengths, and use two 3” yarn lengths for each square, following the color chart provided.

The image above is from the first page of documentation that accompanies the pattern. It is not a picture of the final product and does not represent the finished soft, plush tartan rug. Please refer to the samples pictured on the Home page or Product Samples page for an example of how the finished rug will look.
